9 of 9 people found the following review helpful. it worked as astory to pass the time, but nothing special for me unfortunately.ByJaneDISCLAIMER: The following review was originally posted on mybook blog. It's been a while since I read British chick lit andwhile the beginning was quite promising with this one, it grewrather tedious and repetitive after a while for me.I first thoughtthat the heroine was quite likeable and I thought that I couldmaybe even grow to love her.. But alas, it was not to happen asFrankie grew to be quite obnoxious instead with her insecuritiesabout her looks and herself in general. She was ready to stand upfor others, but never for herself. She thought that she wasn't goodenough for practically anyone and honestly it felt a lot more likea pity party rather than a normal almost 30-year-old woman to me.It's impossible for someone to ignore so many good comments aboutherself for YEARS and take the negative ones to heart the momentshe hears them. And what was up with her studying medicine for adecade and then deciding that she doesn't even want to work in thefield and prefers to open her cake business instead? What is itwith chick lit heroines wanting to bake all the bloody time?? Itdoes not make sense to me and I'm definitely in the camp of likingto bake stuff as well!I also wish that there were more than acouple of chapters from the hero - Tom's point of view as he seemedto be an almost decent man. Though I have a hard time believingthat even he can put up with Frankie putting herself down for sobloody long. He last saw her ten years ago and apparently he'sstill interested, but the man doesn't take no for an answer. Buttruth be told, I wish that he had backed off sooner as his interestin her didn't make sense and in my opinion all good men should beable to back off once the recipient of their feelings says "no".Soyeah... it worked as a story to pass the time, but nothing specialfor me unfortunately.9 of 9 people found the following reviewhelpful. One I will be re-reading!By ireneI loved this book andread it in one sitting. I admired Frankie for knowing what shewants: her plan is to finish this six-month stint in cardiology, then go on to be a part-time registrar in her chosen specialty, palliative care and open her own bakery. Meanwhile, she's alreadymaking bespoke cakes and doing quite well at it. She's focused, she's responsible, she works hard. She doesn't understand why Tom,the consultant she's been assigned to (and her senior in medicalschool) seems to dislike her so much, but she's been bullied beforeand she's not going to let him get to her... after all, she onlyhas to survive six months, then she's out of here. The author did agreat job in writing Tom, because the story is told in first-personfrom Frankie's point of view, so we only get to see how he treatsFrankie and how that makes her feel -- seeing her pain, it wouldhave been easy to hate him, except that there are so many littlegiveaways leading me to suspect he's not that cold after all, anddoesn't really dislike Frankie, even though she may think so. Hedoes come through in the end, although I'm not sure I could livewith a man who still relies on his mother to come over and do hislaundry!I only wish there wasn't a sudden switch to third personwhen the author wanted to give us Tom's perspective; it was likebeing yanked out of Frankie's head and suddenly hovering over thescene. This occurs in four chapters: Chapter 14, 17, 22, and 26(and the epilogue). After each of these chapters, we jump back intoFrankie's head and first-person POV again. It's very jarring forthe POV to shift this way, and made me wish the author had simplywritten the whole book in third-person POV, although Frankie'svoice is great -- so maybe then the whole book should have simplyhave stayed in Frankie's first-person POV.Despite this, I enjoyedthe story enough to give it five stars. It's largely helped alongby the supporting characters, especially Frankie's best friendsDylan and Lou. Everyone should have best friends like those. AndAsh was a hoot, constantly quoting proverbs! The UK slang wasstrange to me but not hard to figure out (for example, Frankie andLou describe Tom as "lush", I gather that means extremelygood-looking... and after one too many drinks, people are"steaming", which I figure means very drunk). I see the author hasanother book out about Dylan and Lou; I'm definitely going to getthat!10 of 10 people found the following review helpful. PleasantSurprise!By Ashley BakerThis book was a pleasant surprise! At thetime that I downloaded this book, it only had 12 reviews. Generallyspeaking, I don't buy or download books with less than 25 reviewsbecause I don't want to waste my time on a lame book. I'm so gladthat I took a chance on this one though. The book had a greatstoryline, and plenty of humor supplied by the main character'sbest friends. After reading Broken Heart Syndrome, I bought the nextbook in the series and immediately started reading!

Shy, reclusive Frankie and her best friend Lou obsess over ThomasG. Longley, as they reverently refer to him, for their entire firsttwo years of medical school. So when he publicly humiliates her atthe student bar she is devastated.Ten years later, Frankie has towork in the testosterone driven environment of Cardiology beforeshe can start her palliative care training and, to her dismay, Tomis her boss. Thankfully the subject of her long-term crush doesn'tseem to remember her and, given her ability to blend into thebackground, she’s not really surprised. Whatdoes surprise her is how cruel he is. Sure he squished her selfesteem like a bug at Uni, but the Tom she spent many a pointlesslunch break or library session covertly watching seemed easy goingand quick to smile; not an uptight, overly critical bully. Betweenpassing out in theatre and being covered head to foot in the bloodyvomit of ‘Scary Glenda’(AE’s most frequent, frequent flyer), shecan’t wait to get through the six months.Although she’s too timid to tell Tom to jog onwhen she is his only target, when it’s herpatients that he starts trampling she decides to grow a backbone, and Tom begins to see that she is not the cold, aloof woman he oncethought. Unfortunately his past behaviour is notTom’s only obstacle to gainingFrankie’s trust. You see, Frankie knows allabout being pushed around. She’s dealt withenough verbal and even physical abuse before to last a lifetime, and she’s not going to be fooled into thinkingthat this ruthless alpha male has turned over a new leaf. Luckilyfor Frankie, Tom is used to getting what he wants. He’s determined to make her see herself clearlyfor the first time in her life and he's just arrogant enough tobelieve that he can break through her defences. But Frankie hassecrets, and a past that is not ready to let her go quite yet…This book is a full-length contemporaryromance / romantic comedy with its own HEA and nocliffhanger.Author BackgroundSusie Tate is a general practitionernow, but she's also spent years as a hospital doctor. Having workedwith and treated some real characters in her time and been involvedin some pretty bizarre and often hilarious situations, she wantedto use her experience to write what she hopes is a funny, at timesheartbreaking story, with a real insight into what goes on behindthe scenes in medicine. Warning â€" this is anadult contemporary romance and does contain some swearing. Susiewould love to say that being foul-mouthed is completely out ofcharacter for her but...
