What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Studio Programs
IS183's ceramics studio is home to wheel throwing and handbuilding classes throughout the year, ceramics workshops, and after-school opportunities for young artists. Ceramics classes are open to students of all skill levels, and experienced students may sign up for open studio access.
The facility has 13 wheels available (electric and kick), tables for wedging and handbuilding, and a glazing area. Our studio glazes are mixed in house — they are rated for cone 6 electric oxidation, cone 6 gas reduction, and cone 6 soda fire reduction.
IS183 provides firing and studio services for Berkshire County ceramic artists. Our facility is home to several returning students who, without us, may not have the opportunity to work with clay.
Learning Through Arts
An arts engagement program that has had a deep impact on more than 1,000 children a year (in school residencies, after-school programs, and summer camps) by using art-making as a tool to improve academic and behavioral learning in 17 of our region's lowest performing schools.
